Tech Out Microsoft's Garage Mouse without Boarders

During my current “Stay at home”, “stay safe”, not leaving for any reason for fear of my life, I began working from home as a lot of us have. The problem was I did not have the same setup at home as I did at work. At first it was just a laptop and a second monitor. Then another monitor, a dock, and another laptop. Both laptops worked beautifully with the dock. They connected through the wonderful USB-C cable. The issue was they did not work at the same time. I began my feverish search looking for a way for everyone to play together.

I looked at the first solution the KVM switch. This would allow me to keep everything plugged in and not have to move around wiring when switching between laptops. A viable solution this was but not good enough. I did not want to choose between the two laptops. I love then both equally and feel it was right to choose a favorite. I wanted to simultaneously work off both laptops and both monitors all playing together gracefully in my new home office / bedroom closet. I am calling it the cloffice but somehow, I do not think it will catch on.

My next solution was to buy a new dock that would be able to handle both laptops, but I was finding the same issue. The docks that would work with both laptops plugged into them were basically just my dock with a KVM built in. My thoughts were going everywhere wondering if I could not just right a program that would allow me to just network the two together and share resources. I started doing some research and realized I did not need to.

I came across a wonderful program called Microsoft’s Garage Mouse without Boarders. This program is slick. It allows you to use the same keyboard and mouse for multiple computers simultaneously. You just download the free software on each computer that you want to control. You can control up to 4 computers from the same keyboard and mouse. The installation process takes you right through it. You will need to choose the base computer that has the peripherals connected then use the passcode that is generated on the other computers. Once installed you can scroll your mouse from computer to computer as if you were just scrolling across one screen.

Thanks for reading I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
